For centuries diviners have reached for items from their casting bags to elicit communicate with other realms.  This course unites the two practices and provides an experienced platform that safely assists diviners in penetrating the veil between the world of the living and departed. From there it will help you garner insight from those who have crossed over and mediate messages of healing and closure.

At the heart of this series is a new tool inspired by ancient casting kits and designed specifically for prompting and navigating dialogue between worlds. The Magpie Oracle Seer Charms is a casting kit of 48 metal charms, a pendulum key, and accompanying casting cloth that open communication with the Otherside.

This series is for diviners who wish to extend their practice into working with the Otherside with respect and ultimately for the benefit of others.

• Grounding, opening up and being receptive while maintaining a foot in both worlds

• Homework: Recorded meditation, Crossing the Bridge. Each week you will be sent a video or audio recording with pairing pdf for the purpose of building your weekly experience.

June 7. 5:30pm PST to 7:00pm PST. Class 2. Charm Casting for Mediumship.

• Pre-recorded show and tell: Before Class 2 you will receive a video that features how you can activate meaning from your casting kit

Introduction to Casting

This workshop will provide advice for beginners who want to learn the art of  bone casting. Information on current sources of bone reading sets, animal bones and other curios will be featured and tied in with the basic spiritual beliefs and concepts associated with this form of divination. Simple casting techniques and interpretation advice will be given, and several interpretation examples will be displayed for discussion.

Michele Jackson is an artist, a diviner, and an author living and working in Southern California. After many years as a tarot reader and deck collector, she was introduced to casting the bones and has been casting ever since. Her website, www.BonesShellsAnd Curios.com is well known in the bone casting community, and her book Bones, Shells, and Curios: A Contemporary Method of Casting the Bones provides an introduction to bone divination as well as “how to” advice on getting started.

If you’ve landed on this page chances are you were redirected here to gather a few tips on casting with the Magpie Oracle. Whether you’re an advanced diviner, or just learning to use the Magpie Oracle I, II or III, the following information first encourages you to follow your intuition. In doing so you will divine from a place of self-trust. With that said, it is important to prepare a few things before casting.

Along with selecting a casting sheet or spread, take some time to form your questions. A good rule to follow is, the clearer the question, the clearer the answer. It also strengthens the divination to have a solid vision of your desired outcome. What is the end result that you want to achieve from your reading? Nourish your divination by keeping an eye on that particular prize.

Once your questions are organized and you have a good view of the outcome you want to create, the future will conspire to work in tandem with your plan by inspiring clear solutions rather than obscure outcomes.

There are several ways to cast charms and I always say that your way is best. Many like to hold their charms a few inches above the center of their casting sheet before releasing them, while others prefer to pepper or shake their charms over their sheet. There is also the neat and tidy route of randomly hand selecting charms and assigning one to each position on your sheet. Be adventurous, curious, inventive and find your casting style.

After casting, take note of where your charms land. Depending on the casting sheet, each charm will likely build an overall focus or theme for you to consider. And while your casting may not always address your opening question, I suggest you reconsider what the divination is presenting to you before disregarding it. There will always be something that is trying to get your attention.

In the event that you feel stuck with decoding or defining your throw follow these four steps:

1. What is it?
Sometimes just naming the charm or symbol breaks the ice and gets the ball rolling.  Start by just describing the literal aspect of the charm.

2. What does it do and what is its purpose?
Describe how the piece can be used in life and in your situation.

3. What does it stand for or remind you of?
In other words, can you see any familiar tie-ins between the symbol and your situation?

4. What is the take away?
How can the symbol offer clarity or insight to your situation and how can you apply it to your life? The aim of divination is not always about forecasting the future, it also puts us in a position to receive a message for which line of action to take. 

Your divination isn’t over until your outcome is realized.  To keep it alive I recommend you either take a photo of your spread or keep it out where you can revisit it daily.

This month’s casting calendar has a simple aim– to connect you with your vision. It begins by asking you to invite your highest vision into 2015 so that you can make lasting changes.

Begin by creating a space for divining. Build an area or altar where your highest vision will feel at home and want to land. Invite it in by lighting candles, playing your favorite music, or making sweet offerings. Engage your heart with your spirit and when ready, cast your charms over your casting calendar while asking for your highest vision for 2015 to reveal itself.  This vision bypasses goals of weight loss, a better paying job or abstinence from guilty pleasures, and goes directly to higher guidance.

Instead of seeing a thinner you, your vision might reveal a stronger you, or an aspect of yourself that knows how to feel comfortable in your own skin.  Rather than seeing yourself in a job that pays more, your vision will likely transcend that possibility and reveal a career that’s in alignment with your calling.  In other words, expect the unexpected as higher guidance doesn’t deal in the mundane. Instead, it positions us with our higher purpose.

Take note of where your charms land.  Whatever lands in the center of your sheet represents the vision that wants your attention.  Look for the symbolic message from your charms and ask how you can apply that message to your life. Charge the month of January with what you’ve discovered from your reading. Charms that land on the day’s of the week support and build your vision. Look for a theme or the bigger picture and carry that vision with you.

Extend the divination by asking how you can act as a vehicle for these symbols to express themselves. How will your charms help you sustain your vision and in turn (and this part is key), what support will you be bringing to the vision? How will you sustain it, what will your efforts produce and how will your higher actions change or improve your life? Big questions for a big year! Are you ready to make a change? Then do so with your highest vision as your guide.

To stay connected to my readings I like to take a photo of my casting. I then add that photo to my altar and the screen saver on all my devices. The goal is to have your reading near and at hand in order to keep the vision alive.  Be creative with how you maintain the message from your reading and join me here next month for more casting opportunities that support your highest vision.

There must be a mini Bermuda Triangle in my office. Things just go missing without rhyme or reason and this is why I count my cards before returning them to their tuck boxes.  I’ve also armed myself with inventory sheets for my casting kits and thought you would like one for yourself.

The following inventory sheet was made specifically for the Magpie Oracle II’s Keepsake Box, which houses 69 casting pieces.  Before putting your divination away, match your pieces to the images on your sheet.  This will prevent you from loosing key elements and leave more time for divining.

This casting sheet is for the moon lovers out there.  Oh how I love the way you move in harmony with the Earth’s natural satellite.  Your ability to veer away from the electric screen and gaze into the heavens is the inspiration behind this sheet.  Helping me is fellow moon lover, Bobbie Jo Drake, Group Creator and Lead Administrator of the fabulous Lenormand Cards Study Group on Facebook, which is a go-to group for anything Lenormand.

Bobbie Jo was kind enough to give an enthusiastic yes when I invited her to brainstorm with me on this sheet. We wanted to give diviners something they could use with not only their Magpie Oracle, Lenormand Loadestones, or decks, but with any divination system. We also wanted to provide a template that could be used anytime, as opposed to the beginning of the month or the start of a lunar cycle. With that said, this sheet is especially geared for those wishing to see a goal through by the phases of the moon.

The revolution of the moon around the earth takes about 29.5 days and during that time the moon gives us eight distinct phases to work with. Below is a casting sheet that features the moon’s phases with each placed on an early 1800’s game board that sports a thoughtful crescent moon. Outlining the moon are eight opportunities to join your goals with the moon’s cycles.  While most prefer to start divining with the new moon, this sheet invites you to be spontaneous and jump in at anytime. I for one will begin divining on the full moon (June 13).  The idea is to motivate more people to work with the brilliant night sky as a mirror to the soul. Here’s how it works:

Bobbie Jo has come up with some excellent starter questions to get you going. She begins with the New Moon, a time for conceptualizing a new plan, and again, you can begin anytime the spirit moves you.

Take your divination system of choice and cast your lot, or randomly select and place your pieces onto the featured moon phases of this casting sheet. You may wish to limit your pieces to eight, with a single piece matching a moon phase, or use more than one piece for each position. Do what you feel called to do.  As I often say, your way is going to be the best way.
